In 2013, Equator Coffees and Teas saw $1.1 million in revenue fall out of its checkbook when Starbucks bought La Boulange, one of Equator’s largest wholesale clients. But what CEO Helen Russell recalls as a very difficult time prompted Equator to enter into a new business venture: retail.
